Racing begins Friday in the 28th edition of Charleston Race Week at Patriots Point
Charleston, South Carolina (April 15, 2024) — Sailors, boats, families, and friends are rolling into town for their first major regatta of 2024: Charleston Race Week at Patriots Point. In some one-design classes where competitors have lined up against each other during winter racing, CRW is often a time for retribution and to set the wheels in motion for the 2024 racing season.

Charleston, South Carolina (April 4, 2024) — Charleston, SC – April 4, 2024 - The countdown for the much-anticipated Charleston Race Week 2024, which starts in just two weeks, is underway. Sailors are gearing up for an exhilarating competition with entries spanning 16 classes, including a robust turnout in one-design fleets: 41 J/70s, 26 VX Ones, and 16 Melges 24s.

A relative newcomer to the Melges 24 since 2020, McClennen also races VX One, Melges 20, J70s, C&C 30 OD, and the IC37. However, he loves the challenge that the M24 brings to the party.

Charleston, South Carolina (March 23, 2024) — This year promises to be an epic Charleston Race Week experience for the VX One fleet. The event responded to the fleet’s request to be moved farther out in the harbor away from the shallows so VX One racing will take place on the same course as the J70s and Melges 24s. Twenty-five boats are registered and the fleet hopes that there'll be at least 30 on the start line. It's not too late to register!

Dark N’Stormy Start to Day 2 Charleston Race Week
Charleston, South Carolina (April 22, 2023) — A day that started with dark skies and thunderstorms finally cleared well before noon but not without challenging times for both race committee and racers alike. The 186-strong Charleston Race Week fleet faced big forecast challenges today as early storms killed the winds. The south-south-west sea breeze stayed pinned to the coast and offshore, making for lighter westerlies farther inside the harbor.

Action Packed Opening Day 2022 Charleston Race Week
Charleston, South Carolina (April 29, 2022) — Race Day 1 of Charleston Race Week got off to a rousing start with ideal conditions delivering an action-packed opening day. Southeasterly winds ranging from 6 to 11 knots enabled organizers to complete four races for all of the inshore courses. Meanwhile, offshore race committee chairmen Bruce Bingman and Ray Redness were able to give all the pursuit classes relatively long races.

Boats across all six courses faced brisk southerly winds of 15-20 knots, while the offshore boats saw five-foot waves and big gusts on the second day of the biggest multiclass keelboat regatta in the Americas.
New Rules and New Course Add Spice for Breezy Opening to Sperry Charleston Race Week
Charleston, South Carolina (April 21, 2017) — It was a tale of two mornings for the more than 200 boats taking to the water today for the opening day of 2017 Sperry Charleston Race Week. Over 150 inshore boats on four circles inside Charleston’s world-famous harbor faced hot temperatures, flat water, and sedate wind of 4-6 knots on their first race. In the meantime, the 46 offshore and Pursuit class boats were battling steep, short seas of 3-5 feet offshore in a solid 12-16 knots of Southerly wind – perfect sailing conditions for the larger boats sailing outside the shelter of Charleston’s breakwater.

Big J/70 Class to Highlight Sperry Charleston Race Week
