Charting 50 Years of Patriots Point: A Legacy We’re Proud to Call Home

Charleston/Mt. Pleasant, SC (2026 April 13) - In 2026, as Charleston Race Week at Patriots Point marks its 30th anniversary, we are honored to celebrate alongside a partner whose legacy runs even deeper.

This year, Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum commemorates 50 years of preserving, honoring, and sharing the story of America’s maritime history, and we are incredibly proud to call it home.

For decades, Patriots Point has stood as more than a destination. It is a place of reflection, education, and connection where history is not only remembered, but also experienced. From the storied decks of the USS Yorktown to the enduring presence of the USS Laffey, it offers a powerful and lasting reminder of the people, service, and sacrifice that have shaped our nation.

For Charleston Race Week, that setting is everything.

What Patriots Point provides is far more than a venue. It makes a foundational contribution to the sport of sailing every year when it hosts Race Week. By opening its doors, its waterfront, and its historic platform to thousands of sailors, teams, and owners (stakeholders) each year, Patriots Point enables an experience that simply cannot be replicated. It elevates not only Charleston Race Week, but the standard of what a sailing event should be.

Year after year, Patriots Point extends itself in a way that goes far beyond just being a host or a partner. It rolls out the red carpet to welcome sponsors, competitors, families, and guests into an environment that is immersive, iconic, and deeply meaningful. The result is a regatta experience that connects the sport of sailing with something larger—history, perspective, and purpose.

There is something uniquely powerful about gathering aboard the USS Yorktown, where conversations, celebrations, and competition unfold against the backdrop of American maritime history. It transforms the event. It deepens it. And it leaves a lasting impression on everyone who steps ashore.

As Patriots Point celebrates an extraordinary 50-year milestone, we recognize not only what it represents, but what it continues to give—an enduring commitment to education, preservation, community, and the willingness to share that mission with all who pass through its gangways.

From all of us at Charleston Race Week, thank you. You have created a place where the sport of sailing, history, and community come together seamlessly.

Happy 50th Anniversary, Patriots Point. The fighting lady lives on!
