Bigger is Better for Sperry Top-Sider® Charleston Race Week

Charleston, South Carolina (April 4, 2012) — The organizers of Sperry Top-Sider® Charleston Race Week, America’s fastest growing regatta, announced today that local dinghy racer and coach Michael Miller will hold his fifth annual Tides and Currents Seminar, which gives valuable guidance to the sailors – 80 percent of whom are out-of-towners – on Charleston’s notoriously tricky tides.

In the past, Miller’s seminars have drawn standing room-only crowds, and winning skippers have dubbed his tips key to victory. For 2012, the regatta’s organizers are planning to present Miller’s advice via an online video. In that, he will deliver information covering both the inshore and offshore race courses.

“The large numbers of attendees over the past couple of years have made it tougher to get everyone the information they need, so I’m excited to try a new tack this year,” explained  Miller. “With time to record and edit the presentation in advance, I’m confident we can get more information to more people than we ever have before.”

Miller’s online video will be posted shortly before the regatta begins on April 20, 2012, and it will be available on the Sperry Top-Sider Charleston Race Week website. Competitors can submit tide or current-related questions to Miller any time between now and April 10th via the Charleston Race Week Twitter page, @CHSRaceWeek.

Sperry Top-Sider Charleston Race Week runs April 19 - April 22 and is open to all monohull sailboats 20 to 80 feet in length. The event is owned and managed by Charleston Ocean Racing Association and is supported by its title sponsor, Sperry Top-Sider, as well as the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, Vineyard Vines, and Gosling’s Rum. Additional sponsors include The Town of Mt. Pleasant, Gill, Coral Reef Sailing Apparel, Newport Shipyard, North Sails, South Carolina State Ports Authority, Interlux/Awlgrip, and Charleston Community Sailing, along with West Marine, Pierside Boatworks, College of Charleston Community Sailing, Harken Yacht Equipment, B&G Simrad, Azalea Moving and Storage, and Lewmar Navtec.
