A Celebration of 30 Years—With Gratitude
Thirty years. It’s a milestone that invites reflection, but more importantly, it calls for appreciation.
For three decades, Charleston Race Week at Patriots Point has been defined by exceptional racing on one of the most dynamic and challenging harbors in the country. But what truly sets a regatta unlike any other apart goes far beyond the starting line.
It’s the unmistakable sense of place—set against the backdrop of one of America’s most beautiful and historic coastal cities. It’s the balance of world-class competition on the water and an robust after-racing experience ashore. It’s the evenings filled with laughter, storytelling, and the kind of camaraderie that turns competitors into lifelong friends.
In many ways, Charleston Race Week at Patriots Point has become something more than a regatta. It’s a annual reunion.
Each year, it brings together a remarkable cross-section of the sailing world—from local sailors who form the backbone of the Charleston community, to some of the sport’s most accomplished competitors, organizers, and supporters from across the country and beyond. That convergence is not accidental. It’s built over time through consistency, commitment, and a shared passion for the sport.
This year’s 30th Anniversary regatta was a powerful reminder of what makes this event so special. Hosting the ORC Sportboat North American Championship alongside 14 classes created a truly dynamic and competitive fleet—but more importantly, it brought people together in a way that only Charleston can.
To our sponsors—whose continued support sustains and elevates this event year after year—thank you. To our partners and vendors, including Mount Gay Rum, B and G, Biolyte, Dimension Polyant, The Sailing Inc. Team One Newport, Roper Francis, Ashley Yachts, Bainbridge International, Blackbaud, Regatta Craft Mixers, Westbrook Brewing, S2S Gear, Anderson Renewal, Vapor Apparel, Rip Juice Bar, The Voyagers Club, Volare Boats and Southern Bear Catering, your contributions help define the Charleston Race Week at Patriots Point experience both on and off the water.
To the volunteers—on the race committee, onshore, and behind the scenes—you are the heartbeat of this regatta. Charleston is widely recognized for its excellence in race management, but it’s the collective effort of so many dedicated individuals that makes the entire event run seamlessly.
And to our hosts at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, and the City of Charleston and Mt. Pleasant—thank you for providing not just a venue, but a true home and headquarters for the regatta. It is here that mornings begin, stories are shared, races are debriefed, and connections are deepened. Beyond the racing and the celebration, you provide a platform for learning, for mentorship, and for the continued growth of the sport. Your support of sailing, and of this event, is both meaningful and enduring.
Finally, to the sailors, families, and supporters who return year after year: you are the reason this event exists. Your passion, your sportsmanship, and your commitment to the experience are what carry Charleston Race Week at Patriots Point forward.
Thirty years is something to celebrate. But more than that, it’s something to be grateful for.
From the Charleston Race Week at Patriots Point team—thank you all for being part of it!
