ChYC Launching (J24s or Similar Displacements)
While the hoist at ChYC remains the same, it has been enhanced with a new dock extending down the channel so that boats can line up briefly before takeout or after launching. There is also a foot dock on the end of the main dock so you can walk to your boat without climbing down a ladder onto it.
The Charleston Yacht Club (ChYC) hoist is available to CRW entrants. The hoist at ChYC has a 5,000 lbs max capacity. If you are anywhere near this limit, we suggest launching via travel lift or crane at Pierside Boatworks. No reservation is necessary at ChYC. Launching will take place first come first served. If able, please arrive early to launch on Wednesday. As record number of boats are signed up for CRW, space will be crowded and very busy at ChYC.
Hoist Schedule:
Wednesday, 18 April 10am-6pm – 12:53 Low Tide, 6:55 High Tide
Thursday, 19 April 8am-6pm – 13:34 Low Tide, 7:38 High Tide
Sunday, 22 April 2pm-6pm – 15:27 Low Tide, 21:43 High Tide
After you turn off Lockwood and into the lot, go to the second gate on the immediate right, make a wide turn, and grab a ticket from the booth. Follow the signs to the staging area. Parking fees are $2 per half hour, but use of the hoist is free.
Follow the signs to the staging area adjacent to the hoist. Please park your boat in an orderly manner and detach your vehicle from the trailer to make room for more boats in the staging area. Volunteers will help guide you to the hoist line when you’re boat fully rigged and ready to hit the water. Be ready to depart from the hoist directly to the marina as dock space is extremely limited. Trailers must be moved to the storage lots immediately after boats are launched.
No gin pole setup will be provided and the hoist may not be used for putting masts in place. Please bring your own gin pole or coordinate with another team for putting masts in place.
Please note, trailer storage is not available at ChYC. Trailers may be stored at the Tides lot and the Coleman Blvd. lot. If you choose to utilize these storage locations, park trailers at your own risk and lock your trailer and any lock boxes.
Trailers may be stored at the Coleman Blvd. lot and Tides lot starting the Wednesday before CRW, and must be removed by Tuesday evening after CRW. Please enter the lot Coleman Blvd. lot from the side or the rear (the front will be locked) and park trailers behind the green fence.
