Charleston Race Week at Patriots Point

april11 2024 vakaros1 sThe VX One Class continues to push the envelope in race management and at Charleston Race Week at Patriots Point 2024, it will once again implement Vakaros RaceSense technology. For sailors in other classes looking to catch a glimpse of this technology, the Charleston Race Week Pro-Am event on Saturday evening of the regatta will also use RaceSense to run races from the deck of the USS Yorktown.

Event director Randy Draftz, said, "One of Charleston Race Week's goals is to have sailors leave better than they arrived. Using Vakaros' technology and data to improve one's performance is a great step in that direction." Vakaros' revolutionary RaceSense technology has been used at over one hundred events worldwide over the past year, from the recent Etchells World Championship to Kiel Week in Germany and local club racing around the world. Last year's Charleston Race Week was one of the first events to implement this technology, equipping the RS21 fleet and PRO Chip Till with what was then a brand-new innovation in sailing.

Sailors and Race Committee reap huge benefits: RaceSense eliminates the need to 'ping' the ends of the line, automatically synchronizes the fleet's timers, and provides instant OCS feedback. The result? More fair, fun, and efficient racing.

april11 2024 vakaros2 s"Vakaros has done a great job improving RaceSense at many events since I last saw it demonstrated at CRW last year," Mark McGuire, CRW race official commented. "The feedback I have heard from race officers has been very positive. I look forward to the technology adding to the racing experience for the competitors by getting them going without the typical delays of "pinging" and recalls."

Perennial CRW competitor and VX Champion Chris Alexander, after the VX Class's RaceSense debut at their 2023 North American Championship, called RaceSense "the best technology that has been added to sailing, ever". In Charleston, the impact is sure to be even greater given the tricky currents across the courses.

Doug Wake, Vakaros Events Director, shared, "Charleston Race Week opened us with welcome arms in 2023. After a year of learning and improvement, from the VX Fleet to the Pro-Am we can't wait to bring RaceSense back to Charleston Harbor and to showcase our innovations at such a legendary event."
